I have just started with a new PC and Win XP Pro.

Why are there enumerable desktop.ini files in lots of my
folders? Several of them have a very old date stamp.

Can I delete all but those that have a current date
stamp? What will be the effect, if any?
 
Hi,

They contain information about your settings for that folder, and it is
quite normal for them to be there.

Those are there wherever a folder is customised in any way, to tell
explorer (which is the desktop as well as the 'windows explorer/My
Computer' how to treat them on opening
