My desktop has Windows XP Home version. I need to install
Windows XP Professional because I need Microsoft Works
which includes Word, Asses, and Excel. Should I install
Windows XP Professional or should I purchase Microsoft
Works? HELP!

Ashka;
Install MS Works. Windows is an Operating System. Works is a program
suite of Application software. If you buy and install Windows Xp Pro you
will still need to purchase Works. Hope this helps.

No, almost everything above is incorrect. Note the following:

Neither Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, nor any other
version of Windows has ever come with Microsoft Works, any of
these programs, nor with any other significant application
software.

Microsoft Works does *not* include Works, Access, and Excel. If
you want those programs, what you need is Microsoft *Office*, not
Microsoft Works.

Installing Windows XP Professional will do *nothing* to help you.
If you want Microsoft Office, you need to buy and install
Microsoft Office.

Windows XP, whether Home or Pro is an operating system. It
runs the computer. It does not do applications such as word
processing, databases, spreadsheets or photo editing.

Some small number of applications are included within the
OS.

OFFICE is a suite of applications but will not run without
an operating system on the computer. OFFICE comes in
several versions and editions. It will include WORD, EXCEL
(a spreadsheet) and Outlook (a personal assistant and email
program) and may include ACCESS (a database) or other
applications.

A well equipped computer will have at least one OS (you can
have more than one) and at least some application software,
OFFICE being the choice of many.

Sorry, but no--this is completely wrong. XP Professional will not
help at all; it does *not* provide Word, Excel, or Access.
