Windows XP Professional startup

When windows XP is starting up and "Loading your Personal
Settings"
what would cause some PC's to take 5 to 10 minutes to
load the personnal settings?? and is there a fix for
this?
 
way to much stuff on the start up menu. use msconfig
from the startup run menu to shut some background stuff
off
