Hi i am using windows xp professinal on AMD athlon 3000+ and asus
motherboard. I have 80 gb seagate hdd and i am using 256 mb ram.

Its a new system but since last few days my pc start up time has increased
and when i click on certain programs like firefox/ internet connection/ any
other application the application doesn't open immediately. i am also using
nortons antivirus 2005 which is upto date. The windows or applications open
after 3-4 mins and all at a once .
even the windows taskbar also doesn't open. even shut down also doesn't work
and i restart the pc by reset button.

This doesnt happen all the time but 3 out of 5 times..
when i restart my pc functions normally..
i dont know the probnlem cause my pc is brand new and i even tried
reinstalling xp but its not working..even disabling few software in msconfig
didnt work.
any one could please help i will be thank ful..

thanks in advance

Hi, Usman,

personally, having bought a new system, I would
- de-install all unnecessary software,
- de-install Norton Antivirus and install Kaspersky or NOD32 or
www.free-av.com (why? Google for 'Norton probs';-)
- add 256 MB RAM - or better: replace the 256 MB module by 2 x 512.

(I run WinXP Pro SP2 on an Asus socket 754 mainboard with an Athlon 64
3000+ and a 160 GB Hitachi HDD and 1 GB RAM PC3200, and I am happy
with the system. It's sufficient for Windows Vista with Aero Glass, too.)
