I have recently been given an original version of windows
xp, but they didnt have the product key to go with it,can
you tell me how to get one or how to find it within the cd.
Thanks so much for your help

Surprisingly, the "thing of value" you purchase when you buy XP is not the
disk, but the Product Key. Unless you only need XP for the next 30 days, you
have been given a disk worth 50 cents. You'll need to spend at least $80 for
a Product Key.

You wil need to purchase a copy of Windows XP to obtain the key.

Just install it and you will have to call microsoft and
they are the one who will give you the product key.

It is not on the CD. The setup program checks the Key it is offered, by
putting it thorough a calculation, to decide if it is a valid key.

You will need to purchase your own copy to get a key - or ask for the
one that originally came with that CD, which may be reusable if the
system has been removed from a previous computer.
