I'm building a new computer, and thought of upgrading from XP Home to
XP Pro X64 (less restrictions on the choice of RAM). Got to this page
via Pricegrabber:

Is it really possible that this software can sell leagally for as low
as ~$50.00,or should one be suspicious?

(I do not want to buy Vista when it is released -- want to wait at
least 6 months.)

Those el cheapo prices may be student editions with user restrictions....stay away!
Purchase your software from a reputable company. Example:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional X64 Edition with SP2B 1 Pack - OEM

Agreed.

Just for those that may not know... It is worth considering that OEM
editions, although priced well for sure, cannot be used for "upgrade". Only
for fresh installs.

Thank you, Frank and Carey. I will stay away from those prices.
However, since I have XP Home, I guess I can use that as an upgrade for
Vista when I buy it (eventually).

I just wonder (could not find it on the MS website): can one upgrade to
x64? Cheaper?

Hans L
x64 is OEM only, you CAN'T upgrade to it.
