Windows XP Pro with SP@

I just received a CD with XP Pro with SP2. When I get to the first screen
after the initial file load (the first "windows" screen - "install will take
approx. 39 minutes") I get an error (in various formats) that says I need to
wipe my disc off because there was an error reading it. It always refers to a
file in the I386 directory.

What gives? This is a new disc and the files seem to load upuntil this point.

Appreciate any help...

Your CD drive could be dirty or the CD damaged or dirty or defective.
Try cleaning the drive with a CD cleaning kit. Also try a different CD.

I am not installing just SP2 - I am installing a fresh OS with a CD that
contains XP Pro with SP2. This is a full install.

I don't have different CD. I did clean the CD Drive.

Ok and did it change anything? If not try a different CD -- they are
available everywhere -- and if that doesn't work try a different CD drive.

Nothing worked - I don't have access to a disc with both XP and SP2. I called
MS and will have a new disc shipped in 14 days. *great* - 14 days!

Most of the time the disc gets to you in a matter of days. You can also
pick one up at a variety of office supply stores - Stapes, Office Depot
-- and they are showing up attached to various PC related magazines on
the rack.
