windows XP Pro will not automatically shut down

Hello ppl

I upgraded my 98 OS to XP Pro and since then when I go to
start and select shut down computer what happens is the
screen disappears like its shutting down but it never
does what I get is it is now safe to turn off your
computer... Prior to this upgrade it always shut down. So
how can I remedy this problem? I already reinstalled XP 2
times, searched MS Site KB found nothing there so here I
am looking for some help.You can e-mail me at:

Even easier than downloading a patch! Windows XP uses ACPI to control the
power off feature and needs a motherbaord to have a compatible APM
motherbaord. Some motherboards do not follow XP's method, so check the
Power Options in Control Panel. There should be a APM power off setting.
