I have an old P2-400 I use for just photo scanning and imaging. I upgraded
from windows 98 to xp pro upgrade on an 8 gig hd. I was running an external
120 gig drive also. It also has 512mb of ram. The 8 gig died and I installed
an 80 gig. I reinstalled the original win 98 disk and tried to upgrade to xp
pro. The computer crashed during the install. I removed everything except
the floppy, cd and hd. It's an old asus mobo and I updated the bios and all
that stuff. After the 4th time I gave up and installed windows 2000. It
works fine but I'm a little ticked that I can't use the OS I spent a few
bucks on. I only used that xp disk once and put it back in the box. Can't
see any problem with disk. Any suggestions.

Simply boot to xp cd (set for this in BIOS if needed-cdrom 1st boot device),
once at xp cd boot screen select, install xp,select delete partition
os(98),create
one, then xp will format the hd and do a clean installation.
