Windows XP Pro Startup

Hi,
Please help. I have just bought this computer and it has a fresh windows
installation. The problem when I press the start button first thing in the
morning nothing appears on the screen, I have to press the reset button
several times and then only will the black screen with white characters
appear and windows will load. Even Windows then load very slowly. The Logo
will go on and of twice before anything happens

Does anyone know what I should do.
