Windows XP Pro SP2
I wonder if the improvements introduced with SP2 should
be forced onto the consumers. With several Desktops and
Laptops working reasonably stable on SP1 and with no
other need but my curiosity to evaluate the so well
advertised SP2, I decided to give it a try.
To my surprised some of the hardware started failing
under SP2, most serious, a set of USB Bluetooth devices,
particularly ones from Sony Vaio. Because of this
instabilities, decided to retract back to SP1 and having
made the choice of "backup", I though it would be a
simple thing to do. When uninstalling SP2, it started
with the information of a large list of programs
(possibly all) on the system that may not work properly
following the removal of SP2. At the end of it all, I had
to restart new installation of most software and
particularly critical device drivers for graphics,
network, chipset and RAID.
From SP2 to SP1 you are left with something in between
and when logging to Microsoft Upgrade link, nothing looks
flexible like before. The contents or improvements on SP2
should have been provided at stand-alone applications or
feature, instead of forcing it to the customers. The way
it is, it's expensive in time consumed to resolve.
