windows xp pro sp2 windows update trouble....

I installed the new windows update v5 the other day when
it came out, and on that day it let me go to that page
several times, but had no updates.. the next day it
wouldn't take me to the V5 page, it took me to the v4
page. Now, yesterday I installed SP2, and it is still
taking me to the Windows Update V4 page. Even if I change
the V4 to V5 it takes me to the v4 page anyway...
I have read that SP2 will only use the V5 update page, so
it has me worried, and I can't find out why it won't take
me to it. And when it took me to the V4 page it wouldn't
check for updates saying that I needed to download the
Active X thing or whatever, and when I did and went to
install it... it said that I had a newer version already
installed.. so I put no
BUT, I tried several more times and eventually had to ok
it to overwrite the newer files... So I then thought...
well now I will be able to go download the stuff for V5
again, but it won't let me go to the page for nothing...
If there is anyone out there that can help me I would
REALLY appreciate it. This is my first time using the
microsoft newsgroups.. I tried to find a SP2 group but
coulnd't.. so if this is in the wrong place I am really

Hello Chris,
I take it the SP2 finished OK. You do have a problem because you need to be using V5 Windows Update (though for now there are no post SP2 fixes).

It's late now, but the controls you last took from V4 are the problem.

Try this for now. Clear your IE browser temp cache files, then in IE -- using manual address bar-- - type & go to
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

See if that results in new V5 controls being downloaded (updated).
And post back.

If no joy, do a search on your system for IU*.DLL , make list, and get their version numbers.
Do the same for WU*.DLL and for WU*.EXE

I tried deleting the temp files and history in IE and typed that in, and
there for a second it looked like it was goin to go to the V5 Page, but it is
like it is forwarding me to the V4 page. I dont' get it.. i need to get this
fixed.. And on the searches you are talking about..
Like just now, I typed IU*.dll so now what is it you are wanting me to do??
Check the versions?? What do you mean??
so far I see iuctl.dll, iuengine.dll, iubroker, iuser7.dll, and 8,
iusercnv.dll, iuser.dll
Is there something that I need that I don't have? Or what else can I do??

I meant for you to make a list of the DLL files, and for each one, either do a right-click & select Properties to see & write down its version number & date ---- or hover mouse-pointer over file in Win Explorer, and write down its versions of these files.
Then post back that info. By doing that, hope that we can figure out what you have & maybe what you are missing.
