Windows XP Pro search doesn't find files

When I do a Windows XP search for a word or phrase in a file, it doesn't
search or locate any files with .dita or .ditamap extensions (xml files) or
..pdf extensions. It does search and locate files with the .xml extension.
When I do the same search on a Windows 2000 machine, .dita, .ditamap, .xml
and .pdf file types are included in the search results. Any advice?

Use a different search engine such as Google or Yahoo. Windows is notorious
for its weak search skills.

XP's search will look for text in files that have only certain extensions.
You can add other extensions. See this article.

Using the "A word or phrase in the file" search criterion may not work

A work around is to use a 3rd party search tool. Agent Ransack is free and
works well.
