Hello All,

I am having a problem connecting to my work PC with the native XP
Remote Desktop Connection program from home. It worked fine until we
changed our work network to use DHCP yesterday. I have tried using the
new DHCP assigned IP address as well as the name of my PC but nothing
works. I can however still connect to servers with static IP's via RDC
from home. So I'm figuring it is a DHCP/DNS issue...Any one know of a
fix other than reverting my work PC back to a static IP???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Ernie Dumas

I connect to xp pro boxes (using remote desktop) that use dynamic ip
addresses all the time. Static or dynamic, it doesn't matter as long as your
connecting to the correct ip address. Sounds to me like in your firewall /
router they need to open ports 3389 and forward any connection attempt to
your computers local ip. Possibly changing to dhcp reset your port
forwarding settings or they were never right to begin with. Of course this
assume you have a firewall / router protecting your network.

I think Phil nailed this one but I wanted to add that if you wanted to stay
with DHCP you could simply add a reservation for the PC you're trying to
connect to. That way when you get the port mapping right you don't have to
worry about it changing it's IP address again.
