Hi,

I have Windows XP Professional with the version of IIS
5.1 that is packaged with it installed. Does anyone know
how I can create new websites using this version of IIS?
I have been unable to figure it out and have not come
across anything yet that states how to do it or even if
it can be done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Michael. What do you mean "create new websites"? IIS is a webserver,
not a website creator. Here's a link to an explanation of IIS:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/iis/default.mspx

If you are not running your own webserver (and if you don't know what
that means, you aren't and shouldn't be - there are a *lot* of security
issues you need to understand), then you don't need to use IIS. Post
back with what exactly you're trying to do if you need more help.

Cheers,

Malke

Thanks, Malke, for your concerns and I am glad to know
there are people who are watching out for that. I am not
running my own webserver. I am simply trying to create a
local website for the purpose of using ASP.NET. I am a
developer for a consulting company and am checking out
ASP.NET on my home pc. I do not leave leave the IIS Admin
service running when I am connected to the web (through
dialup) because I am aware of the potential for harm.

If you (or anyone else) know how to create a new site I
would appreciate it if you could tell me.

Thanks,
Michael
