I went "bleeding edge" and purchased the Dlink DNS-120 USB to Ethernet
Network Stoarage Adapter. I was finally able to write to the attached 250GB
hard drive when I formatted it as a bunch of 34.4MB FAT32 logical drives.
However, I cannot write to the same drive formatted as NTFS. I can read fron
it however. Would it be worth spending $200 to upgade one computer to Windows
XP Professional? If so, how do work it?

Please don't spend money to upgrade, it is useless.
Right now, Linux system can support NTFS well.
This device ( Almost all NAS ) used Linux.
I suggest you should find a partition tool.
( From shareware, you find a lot )
It can let you format a big FAT32 partition, more than 32G.
