Windows XP Pro bombouts

For the last few weeks my WinXP Pro SP1 bombs with a blue window on a black background. The window isn't displayed long enough to read all its contents, but it begins with 'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL'. When the system restarts - it does so automatically, there's always a little window asking me to report the error to Microsoft, which I've done many times with no response other than it must be a driver problem... thanks a lot, Bill! I've searched the web and found that many other people have similar problems, and that there are apparently fixes for the glitch when it occurs in Win2K and Win Server 2003... but NOT in Win XP! As far as I can tell, all my drivers are up to date (Dell Inspiron 8000, Alcatel Speedtouch 330 USB ADSL modem, HP Deskjet 980 cxi, and LaCie external 160GB hard drive). The bombout usually occurs when I'm online, but I'm almost always online; however, it also occasionally occurs when the system is offline. I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me sort this out, as Microsoft apparently has no inclination to help anyone with this problem.

first off, check to see if the 'automatically reboot...' is enabled, if it is DISABLE it. To do this go to System Properties, click the 'advanced tab, go to 'Startup and recovery>settings> then clear the box next to 'automatically restart.. That should help you with any error messages...Also, you should enable all error reporting.

there are several possible causes for the STOP...message, many have the same initial content.'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL', but all have greatly varied differences, depending on the entire error message and #.
Please post back with more details, if you are able.
