Windows XP not recognizing Ipod Shuffle

I know this is an iPod problem, but as the computer is refusing to
view it as a USB mass storage device, it has got me stumped. I bought
the Ipod from a friend and MY computer(current XP system) sees it as an
iPod from the get go even before I install any software. It also shows
up as a USB mass storage device (jump drive) with no problems. Prob is,
that the iPod is for my wife and HER computer refuses to see the unit at
all. Her PC is also current Win XP. While the pc does initially see the
USB device, it reports it as "unrecognzied", even after I install all
the software for it(iTunes, etc.) Is there an MS fix to update the
generic USB drivers? I am open to suggestions short of letting my wife
use my computer<bg> ;-Deano

I am experiencing a similar problem--windows does not recognize my shuffle at
all when I plug it it. This is a new problem. The same computer recognized
it and worked perfectly in the past. I read somewhere that this may be a
problem with Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that there is a hotfix
available...but I have had no success in trying to figure out how to get
ahold of that hotfix. Any ideas/other solutions??
