Windows XP Misidentifies INTEL PRO/1000 MT Network Adaptor

Dell PowerEdge 600SC shipped with INTEL PRO/1000 MT Network Adaptor factory installed. Loading Windows 2003 Server properly identifies the NIC and it works perfectly. Loading Windows XP Pro is not so fortunate. The OS configures the adaptor as Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter Version 5 which doesn't work even after the user (me) loads the driver for the Linksys manually. Obviously a case of mistaken identity. So I guess this is fodder for the old investigation mill if there is such a thing.

Mark,

Most peculiar.. I can't imagine why Windows would do such a thing,
especially as the PCI vendor ID values for Linksys (1317) and Intel (8086)
are completely different, and that's the mechanism that Plug & Play uses to
detect the appropriate driver.
Regardless, you need to download the correct driver for the card, from:
http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/1000mtquad/sb/cs-006177-prd959.htm

Hope this helps..
