Windows XP Low Virtual Memory

I have used my compute with no problems for quite a
while. I just did a disk defragment and ever since then,
I get lag in some MMORPGs while a move from one planet to
another, and when I shut down. I kept my toolbar open
and noticed that I am now getting a Low Virtual Memory
warning. I never received this warning (or subsequent
slow down)prior to doing the disk defragment. It seems
that my game is now accessing my virtual memory instead
of the installed memory in the computer. Is there
anything that I can do to correct this?
