When I logon to any account taskbar is frozen, desktop is empty and it takes
about 7-10 minutes to show icons and unlock the taskbar. Windows is very slow
and nearly impossible to navigate, but evrything works. From computer
management disabled UPnP (SSDP) service from loading but does nothing. That
was all microsoft has to offer.
the only things I can think of which caused this are:
1. Start up control panel 2.8 by Mike Lin. I moved a pest start service
(styleXP) from common start to HKCU (this has since been reversed)
or more likely,
2.I followed instructions from a Microsoft article to change .sys files
through the registry (microserfs said to delete all registries and files but
I canged the name to be sure no damaging effects ensued, my cd drives
dissapeared so I reversed the changes)
This pertains to the cdralw2k.sys and cdr4_2K.sys drivers
for my CD writer and DVD reader (installed from the incompatable roxio easy
cd creator4 direct CD) This was left alone for years but Im sick of seeing
the ballon "devices disabled" so i tried some remedies.
disabling ssdp service or deleting cdr system files was all microsoft had to
offer.
Any insight would be appreciated,
....Why would microsoft reccommend deleting important system files that are
required to operate the drives, and without any links to reinstall new ones?
At least one of those files actually came with WMP 9 if im not mistaken? And
disabling plug and play?I have 6 removable devices connected, some of which
dont have a specific address so its host software relies on microsoft for
detection. McMicrosoft should have more access to download files other than
..dlls. and offer more help? Its like giving a kid a mint to hold him off when
he gets hungry, really.
