What cured my XP slow user logon problem

I've seen a lot of posts about this problem but not a lot of solutions. I
have a Windows XP Home that is up-to-date. For the last month or so I
experienced a big delay when I first logged in from the Welcome Screen after
a computer start or restart. XP would take approx 30 seconds to show my
desktop image, then almost two minutes to show my taskbar and desktop icons.
Again, this only happened on the first logon of the day.

After checking XP's application error records I saw the Windows Image
Acquistion service (WIA) was hanging when I first logged in to my computer.
I disabled the WIA service and my computer is back to its normal self again.
If I logon from the Welcome Screen after a start or restart then my desktop
is fully functional within 20 seconds. My one year old Fuji digital camera
has its own software for downloading images and works fine with WIA disabled.

Hope this info can help someone.
