Does anyone know of a way to eliminate the Windows XP
login screen that appears after turning on my computer?
This only started happening after recently installing a
Microsoft recommended security update. I'd like the
computer to run the programs in the StartUp folder without
having to log in.

Go Start|Run type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and hit
Enter. Uncheck the box which states "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer". Now your computer should boot straight into
Windows as it did before this update :-)

I'd like to know if there's a way to eliminate the need to
log in to Windows XP, either from the login screen or the
Welcome screen, which appears after turning on the
computer, so that Windows will run the StartUp folder
without user intervention during bootup.

I ran "control userpassords2", but I did not see a
checkbox saying "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer". The only option I saw was to either
display the login screen or the Welcome screen. It doesn't
require a password, but it still seems to require that a
user identify themselves, either through the login screen,
or the Welcome screen.
