Hi All,
I know it sounds crazy, but my windows xp login password
has changed by itself and i can't log into my personal
files and outlook anymore. i can only log in as guest and
the password hint is not helping really. can they change
by themselves or is it a bug?? or wot ?? please
help !!!!!! :-(

Believe they did. i don't know if someone don'e it while
i was away frommy laptop. but imnot lying. please don't
hint that im lying if you don't know how to help.

I'm not implying that you are lying. I am telling you a fact. Passwords do
not change themselves.

It is entirely possible that someone else changed it and it is entirely
possibly that you may have inadvertently changed it.

Please don't kill the messenger because you don't like the news.

Was this an administrator account? Do you have access to the administrator
account?

That's what I used to think too, but it happened to me as well on an
ex's computer and she thought I hacked it. Anyway, just use a null
password. In other words click OK or LOGIN or whatever they label the
button in XP.

Is there any other way that this could have happened by the way
(hacking from an outside source even though she has a firewall, some
quirk in XP, etc) because it was the source of a couple of arguments
and I could never get her to believe me. FWIW, I'm a dba so I know my
way around computers and wouldn't have just done it "by accident."
One thing I will say is that the computer was acting funny before this
happened. IE was hanging and eventually it needed a reboot. After
the reboot the password was set to NULL for some reason.

Hey, I never said it didn't or couldn't happen. What I said was "passwords
don't change themselves". As a dba, you should know that. If the password
changed, something caused that change. Could be a virus, could be user
error, could be a hacker.
