Windows XP log-on problem

I've been trying to install a new sound card (Creative
Sound Blaster Audigy LS) and I had a lot of problems
installing the drivers. The Creative tech support guy
gave me a long list of things to try and the end result
is that I now can't log into Windows. I can get to the
screen where you select the User, but once I select the
user and it looks like it's about to boot up, it freezes.

I've tried several times to boot up, both with and
without the sound card installed and the same thing
happens. The trouble is that most of the troubleshooting
suggestions start with a working Windows.

Could someone please help me?
