Windows XP is stuck in "starting up mode"

My machine with XP installed will not boot past
the "windows is starting up" page. It just sits
there...any ideas
 
Did you just defragment the drive(s)? If you did, as of
now it looks like it's a new issue with XP which they say
should be addressed in XP SP2.
Good luck.
 
How do I get passed the windows start up page. I cant
even get into windows?
