A check with ATI Radeon X550 shows my drivers are up-to-date.
A Dxdiag shows all three buttons as enabled.
I used a progr called "Drive Checker" It found obsolete drivers for the ATI
X550, Sound Recorder, and Microsoft. To download I first need to purchase
the progr. Idid not, for I don't trust these offers and cannot afford it
anyway.
This seems to be an exercise of futility. I will have to live with it.
Thanks for your extensive patience and help.
Nurmi.
Do not use driver checking programs. They are a waste of money.
It could well be an exercise in futility, but that is what
makes computers fun. We cannot let the computer win at this
game
I mean, if it gets frustrating enough, you can alwaysreinstall all the software - but that is admitting the computer
has won.

Try Control Panels
isplay:Settings:Advanced:TroubleshootingTry moving the slider back one position from full acceleration.
See if the symptoms change.

My own computer has a problem with acceleration, but it is
triggered by playing a game and alt-tabbing out of the game.
(The game continues to run in the background, something I
do when using the machine for more than one purpose at the
same time.)
When I attempt to move windows around the screen, they slowly
redraw, as if the acceleration is disabled. Fortunately,
I have figured out what triggers it, and using System
Restore, and returning the system to a previous day's restore
point fixes it. If I go into the Display control panel, make
changes and save them, that seems to cause it. I'm using the
video driver that was packaged with WinXP SP3 (not a downloaded
ATI driver), and I think if I changed the driver, it would
likely fix it. The reason I've left it, is for a time when I
discover another way to cure it (other than System Restore).
