Dear all,

I had a problem with my windows xp, basically it used to hang due to
some problem. I re-installed windows XP again, during the re-installing
process it adviced me to install it into a separate folder, as it would
overwrite my 'My Documents' folder. So I created a winxp folder and
re-installed XP and it is working fine. But the problem is now I am
unable to access my earlier 'My Document' folder. I don't find it
anywhere...........

When i start my machine i get two Windows XP prompts where one works
and when i select the other one it gives me some hal.dll not found
error.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

When you installed windows it created another Windows install in a different
directory. So you now have 2 copies of windows on your HDD. That is why you
have a menu and it shows two Windows XP.
One is corrupted with some hal.dll not found.
You can try and fix it or there is another option.

What name did you give your new "WinXP" folder?

The prompt should have been to write over "Windows" directory not "Documents
and settings".

Either way I would say the new install over wrote your previous documents
and settings OR you now have more than one User profile each having its own
"document and settings folder.

Look for User profile "Username 001" or some variation fo your user profile.

As far as Hal.dll error and what is called dual boot with 2 Win XP options.
Try to repair faulty install (fix hal.dll) or start with "Clean Install"
Clean Install would erase your hard drive.

Another option is to erase faulty windows directory and remove reference to
it from boot option.
