Windows Xp install missing iastor.sys

Hi

I have a laptop with a new hard drive. I have made 2 partions on it. One big
and one small (2gb). On the small partion I have put the windows XP install
files - copied from an original cd, which came with the laptop. On it I have
installed DOS 7.1, so that I can see the content of the disc.

I have NO CD-drive or floppy drive on it (fujitsu-siemens). The way I got
DOS on it, was via another laptop (Acer - which has CD-drive), where I
replaced the hard drive with the new one and then installed DOS 7.1.

The problem is when I try to install XP by doing d:\i386\winnt - the files
are copied and it restarts - all good. But when the install starts the next
time it says it can't find iastor.sys and the I can press any key to
restart...

I have look everywhere for an answer and this forum is my last option.

I know now, that the iastor.sys file is used for SATA drives, which I don't
have. The one in the FS-laptop is an 160gb ATA-100 drive 5400 rpm.

I have tried in BIOS to make sure, that the hard drive is found and IDE
connected.

Is there someway to bypass some of the installation files, or a fix or some
program I can use in DOS...

I have also tried different RAM to see if that would work, but still no...

Hope anyone can crack this.

Cheers
Christian

PS: my last idea is to find an old win98 installation and then install XP on
that if possible...

iastor.sys is located on the xp install cd (retail),if one has the cd,it
can/could
be copied.

I have found it on my install cd, and it was copied to the i386 folder on the
small partion, but still it fails to find it.
