Windows XP Hotfixes

When I go into my add/remove programs files, there are
listed over 45 files of Windows XP Hotfix. Each
containing different numbers (of course) I know these
are ones that I loaded thru my Microsoft update program,
can I safely remove all these from my add/remove program
file?

If you delete the backups in your Windows folder *first* and you're sure
you won't ever want to uninstall the updates, yes. After deleting the
backups, clicking the listing in Add/Remove Programs will inform you that
the update can no longer be uninstalled. It will also ask if you want the
Add/Remove listing removed. Say "Yes."

If you remove them, you also remove the fix.
However you can safely delete the uninstall files.
Once you are sure you will keep Windows XP Service Pack 1.
The files may be hidden, to show the file:
Go to C:\WINDOWS
Click the top TOOLS, click FOLDER OPTIONS, click VIEW
Check the radio button. "Show hidden files and folders"
Click OK and you should now see more files.

Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete "$NTServicePackUinistall$" about 240 mb.
Then go to Add/Remove Programs.
Click Service Pack 1, there will be an error since you just deleted
the file.
Click YES to delete the shortcut.

Use similar procedure to delete similar files for the updates.

It would seem that MVPs don't know about each other and
what little tools they have. www.dougknox.com has a dandy
little program called Remove Hotfix Backups Version 1.0.1
that will remove the hotfix listing in the add\remove
program list as well as the backup for the hotfix. This
will not remove the fix just the listing and the backup.
Keep smiling.
