I have about 20 of these hotfix things under my installed
programs. I don't know what they are and I've been trying
to find out all day. How can I find out what each one is
for? I also have other programs that I want to find out
if they are necessary or not. Where can I look?
Thanks, Bluebirdsmom

Hotfixes are updates for Windows XP. It's easy to find out what each one
is, just search the web for the Q*******. This will bring you up with the
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article for the specific updates.

The hotfixes are the Windows Updates that you installed on the computer. Do
not remove them, as they are important to fix security holes.

If you are curious about other programs that show up in Add/Remove Programs,
try typing their name in Google.

Hello!
Hotfixes are those updates which help to run your computer
free from bugs as well as from vulnerabilities. But don't
deploy a hotfix until you have all current service packs
installed. A hotfix is related to a service pack and should
be deployed with this in mind.
