Hi

I've got a bit of a problem... I'm busy trying to set up
a friends computer which has Windows XP Home installed on
it.

I was trying to set it up so that when it boots up it
automatically logons into the user account and then takes
the user straight through to the desktop.

Now. I went through... Start > Run > control userpassword2
and i unchecked 'user must enter a username and password
to use this computer'.

When I reboot and just after the black screen bootup
(windows xp home and loading bar) the computer beeps and
flash up an message but it is so quick that i can't see
what the message says. It then goes the screen Windows
is starting up and just hangs. I've left it for a good
while but it doesn't progress!

How do i get pass this ?

Do I need to maybe go through safe bootup? What key is
it ?

Many thanks in advance.

Hit F8 as BIOS info goes to black, take Safe Mode, and you should have
an icon for Administrator on the Welcome screen - take it

Then go to
control userpasswords2
again, check that box and Apply. Then highlight the account he will use
and use reset password, to something he knows, or to blank. So when you
now uncheck the box and Apply to enter the user and password you can be
sure it is correctly matched
