Windows XP Home Primary User Problem

B

Brad Paul

Had a corrupt OS the other night when logged on as the
primary user or Owner. Changed hard drives and re-
installed WinXP Home on a fresh HDD.

Set old HDD as slave and opened Explorer. I can see all
Documents and Settings folders for the other 4 users but
my Documents and Settings folder is "not accessible...
Access Denied"

Is there any way to get at this folder?

Can I just copy the other user folders from the old HDD
to the new HDD to set them up?

What is the "work around" to prevent this in the
future... I just got up and running after the big
blackout in Aug and now all my stuff is locked out
again!!!

Thanks

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421

XP Home: By default, you can only make files and folders under My Documents
"private". This is done by right clicking a folder or file and selecting
Properties, Sharing. To change the permissions on other folders, you need
to boot the computer to Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator
account. In this mode, you'll see the Security tab in Properties, and you
can assign permissions based on user name or group membership.
