I have A Dell Dimension 4400 to stopped working when a restore was done to a
prior point.

The splash screen comes up but hangs. The system dows not boot up in any
safe mode, nor does it boot up on last know working profile.

It eventually re-boots and the repair option by booting up with Win XP Home
CD does not work eithr - tit complains that the Hard Drive is not installed -
cannot repar.

Help! any quick solution?

Do some diagnostics on your RAM and HDD
run memtest86 www.memtest.com
HDD diagnostics from the manufacturer of your drive

Why was the restore done? What problems were you having? Things to
check:

1. Is the hard drive seen in the BIOS? If not, then this is strictly a
hardware problem. Contact Dell tech support.

2. Run the Dell Diagnostics program before you call Dell tech support.
You can invoke the program either by pressing F12 when the computer
starts and choosing the diagnostic option or by booting with the Dell
Resource CD.
