Windows XP Home Edition Hosts file

For some reason I can't go to www.google.com...it seems
that some software is routing me to a page that gives me
instructions on how to fix this. When I try to edit the
Hosts file as recommended, I am unable to save my changes
on exit. Can anyone help me with this?
