Windows XP Home Dutch version

Steve

About 12 months ago my Dutch girlfriend bought herself a
PC with the OEM version of Windows XP Home (Dutch) already
installed on it. The shop did not give her the CD and
maintain they never do anymore.

Is there anyway that I can get hold of a CD so that I can
do a complete re-install for her? I have the OEM code
number

Only the manufacturer of your PC that installed
Windows XP can provide a replacement of an
OEM CD. If they are unwilling to do so, you'll
have to purchase a new one. Microsoft will only
replace "retail versions" of Windows XP.

She price shopped. Now it's time for you to buy her a Dutch MS XP CD.

It is unfair, every computer should have a recovery CD.

No, it's not unfair. OEM vendors are required by their agreement
with Microsoft to give you a means of reinstalling, should it be
necessary. They can do this in one of three ways:

1. An OEM copy of Windows

2. A restore CD

3. A hidden partition on your drive, with restore information.

If the OP doesn't have 1 or 2, he should have 3, but he should
contact his vendor to find out.

If you don't like what a particular company comes with, then you
shouldn't buy that computer. Take your business elsewhere.
Personally, I find both 2 and 3 unacceptable, and would never
choose to buy a computer that came with an operating system
unless I got a complete generic installation CD for that
operating system.
