WINDOWS XP HOME AFTER VIRUS

When I downloaded the latest patch for the new Blaster
type worm, I got a message that I don't have Windows XP
system--which I have...Other times, I have been shown to
have 'NT', and McAfee won't run it's Virus Scan because
it doen't support 'NT'--I think that when I got the 'SO
BIG' virus, though it's been removed, it put me into DOS--
and 'NT' 4. How can I get out of this?--Lu
