Windows XP hangs for 3 minutes on power - up

Hi,

I have a longstanding problem in that for some reason Windowsseems to
hang for around 3 minutes when first powered up. I can access programs
via the desktop icons during that period but not the "Start" menu nor
anything off that.

The system tray is visible but only a few of the normal icons appear.
This persists even after the hangup ends and in order to recover my
normal system tray I have to log out (not shutdown) and re-logon.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,

David

Can you access Task Manager by select Ctrl+Alt+Del and see what process
are running?

Have you checked for spyware?

Are there any Error Reports / Clues in Event Viewer. Please post
details.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry, thanks for responding.

I've cleared the event logs then performed a restart with a 3 minute
pause after bootup before logging on. There were several errors and
warnings as follows below.

Thanks again for your help,

David
