Windows XP files missing for internet connection

I have installed a cable modem and router, but the
installation company (Adelphia) says that files are
missing from my computer that allow their modem to talk
to my computer. Can anyone tell me what files are needed
and how I can reinstall them? We tried hooking up my
son's computer which was purchased at the same time and
it worked perfectly. I am hoping for a solution that
does not require reformatting the drive and reinstalling
XP. Any info would sure be appreciated.

Since Adelphia says that files are missing, they're the only ones who
can tell you what files are needed. We don't have enough information.

Adelphia claims to not know "what" the files are that are
missing, only that the modem is not communicating with
computer due to "missing files". I am told that XP
software automatically deletes unused files after a
period of time...I don't know if this is true or not.

Is there a way to reload Windows XP without affecting any
other data on the computer?

Thank you.

I'm sorry, but what the folks at Adelphia are telling you sounds like
total nonsense to me. Windows doesn't delete unused files.

Call them back and insist on talking to someone who can help you solve
the problem. If the first person you talk to can't, ask to speak with
a supervisor.
