Hi,

I recently noticed that my D: drive in a Windows XP laptop was
configured to be "shared". I never chose that option. Is this normal, or
the default? The os is on C:.

Also, is it possible to change the ownership of a folder from User1 to
User2 by an administrator. So far, I have noticed that I can only "grab"
ownership of folder (if allowed). So I would need to login as User2 to
grab ownership of a folder from User1.

Thanks.

With XP, you can't assign ownership, you can only take ownership.

Usually shared folders have to be assigned.

That isn't true. You can change the owner of an item. It's in advanced
sharing & security settings.

You are correct that setting directories to be shared doesn't happen
automatically, except for the "Shared Files" directories.

I know you can take ownership or change ownership to an account that is
already in the listed box under the "Change owner to:". However, you can't
just randomly assign any user as the owner. They have to be listed, or have
administrator access to take ownership.
