My son's computer that he only plays offline games on was taken into a local
shop for repairs little over a year ago. They installed windows xp on it but
didnt give us the key for it and now the xp becomes unregistered every day
and will not work. The shop refuses to help. He is developementally
challenged and the computer is his main source of entertainment but it is
getting aggravating to have to lose the xp every 30 days. How can this be
fixed? or can it? We cannot afford a new OS at this time...Thanks

What was the original operating system of the computer? Install it.

If the shop sold you Windows XP but did not give you a key, how do you keep
reinstalling?

Something sounds very wrong with that shop.

Does this apply:

The Computer originally came with windows 98, when they "worked" on it the 98 no longer worked. I have been rebooting it every 30 days with an xp disk that I have with no registration numbers on it. When it asks me to put the number in I don't have one because the nimnuls didn't give me the key but I do have a cd that puts xp on for only 30 days then it expires. This computer will not connect to the internet to register due to some past problems with it. Sooooo what to do?. The shop that worked on it is a part of a charitable organization that works on them for a little money for the mission and their "technicians" obviously have limited computer repair skills.

No other fix, buy a copy of XP find a way to afford it, OEM is cheaper but be
careful where you buy it, if you get a volume license it's not a good thing!
You can make a phone call instead of internet registration, I just did this,
the new install required activation before loggin on all the way, so I had to
make the phone call, took 6-7 minutes, it's very simple.
