i have been having numrerous issues that i have been tracking through the
event viewer. the "system" hasnt logged an event in 24 hours and i have had
2 blue screens since that should be logged. how do i get this to start
logging events again?

The events properties default Maximum log size is 512 KB. When the maximum
log size is reached the default is to "Overwrite events as needed", if the
choice here is "Do not overwrite events" you have to clear logs manually for
new events to be recorded. Another choice "Overwrite events older than 7
days" would also cause the problem on a new installation because when log
fills up (512 KB) before 7 days there is nothing to overwrite. You can check
these settings in Events Viewer > Action menu > Properties

Thanks. It seesm to be ok now. I think what you described was the problem
although it seemed to stop working when I activated a Symantec Norton trial
and seemed to start working again after I uninstalled it.

Do you happen to know what this means (its a warning in my error log):

Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to
make sure the network cable is properly connected.

I have had numerous issues with this laptop. The latest is that it does not
connect to WPA secured networks, only WEP. And when I do connect everytime I
get a "limited or no connectivity" issue that I have to click repair and it
gets fixed. I reinstalled drivers for my Intel wireless WIFI network adapter
but that didnt fix it. Could the above error be the issue?

You need to post complete Error reports not snippets from them.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Maybe your DHCP Server/Client is not set to run automatically.

Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
Double-click DHCP Server/Client.
On the General tab, in the Startup type box, click Automatic, and then click
Apply.
Click Start, wait for the progress bar to complete, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit.
