Please excuse me I am a bit of a computer moron so my
question may be really simple, but you assistance is still
very much appricitaed. My fiancee has recently downloaded
a slew of programs, which I have since removed as I
noticed we were getting alot of viruses in the system.
After removing these programs the mouse started to freeze
up. I cleaned it and even replaced it with another mose,
but had the same problem. I started to think that maybe
there has been some damage done by the viruses. So I
started to load a repair update from my windows disk. It
runs almost completely thru the cycle then gives me the
following error message: Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and
also **STOP: 0x0000000d1 (0xfba10516, 0x0000016,
0x00000000, 0xfba1051c). I have tried everything I can
think of to get it to either load or discontinue the
update, but it always returns to the Load info page and
continues to redo the download. I have tried hitting F5
and F8 when I reboot, but the options I get their still
return me to the same thing. Can anyone help me with
this? THanks

To see the error message, instead of a reboot, go to Control
Panel|SYSTEM|ADVANCED tab|START UP & RECOVERY and UNcheck the
"automatically restart" box. Then begin your sleuthing here...

http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

I had the same thing after Windows Update. I unchecked the automatically
restart box as noted by dev after which at crash I got a blue screen with an
error message. Mine was DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the tech info was
concerning a file named ALCXWDM.SYS. I googled these and found the file is a
audio driver for Realtek AC'97. I updated these drivers and the crashes
stopped. Whatever blue screen message you get google it and you will most
likely need update a driver. Hope this is of some help.
