Windows XP does not recognise correct size of new hard drive

I bought a new Western Digital 60 Gig hard drive but XP
only recognises it as 1.99 Gig. I reformatted it but this
didn't help. I disconnected the new drive and rebooted the
computer on the old drive. I then shut XP down and
reconected the new drive, rebooted and now XP has added an
extra new drive letter, I now have C drive, F, and G
drives, but only 2 drives in reality. Both F and G are
recognised as having only 1.99 gigs. What's happening? I
would be very grateful for some advice on this problem.
Thanks in advance for any assisstance.

Is it formatted as FAT16 by any chance? That type of partition has a 2GB
limit. If this is the case you should repartition it as NTFS (recommended)
or FAT32.
