If I click on the rigyht hand side of my desktop the programms that are
running sem to close i.e. they are not on the taskbar.

If I then change the resolution settings from 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600 I will
see my Outlook Express again and I then put it back to 1024 x 768 but
anything else that I had running appears to have closed but I cannot then
start that program again.

If I look in the Task Manager I see that the process e.g.: ieexplorer is
still running.

At the moment I close the process and start again but if I'm using excel or
word I lose the work.

this is getting very annoying and if I am scrolling up or down this can
happen.

Or if I close a program I can lose the lot.

Help please

Shot in the dark, but these kinds of issues are often related to
display-driver problems. Suggest checking the driver is the correct one for
your card, and if the manufacturer has an update for it.

I agree with Ian that video drivers seem to be the most likely cause. Have
you checked the Web page of your computer and video board manufacturers for
updated drivers?
