Hi.
I was just wondering, I bought a computer from a friend of mine, and it was
updated to windows xp from ME. When I look at my hard drive properties, it
says that I only have 4.8 GB left out of 40 GB. Surely, xp does not take up
that much room on my hard drive. Is there a way to correct this without
having to reinstall xp, for I don't have the restore disks.

Hi P-nut,

If you are referring to 4.8gb's FREE on a 40gb drive I would you first
go to Add/remove programs in Control Panel and uninstall any unneeded
programs. You could also ask your friend if he had any file such as
image files stored on the drive that can be deleted.

Hello again,
I went and found a bunch of image files that I probably can erase, but I
don't think that will give me all of my space back. Plus, I am getting the
error message " cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk."
What does this mean?

did u Go to Windows Explorer, right click on C: Choose properties, it
will tell u how large the disk is and how many Byte are being used..
Then do a DISK CLEAN up from the SAME window

Yes I did, and that cleaned up a little bit, but now I am still at 4.8 GB
free. There has to be something else that I can do. Please, please, please
help.

Get a Friend who has win 98 or win/me computer Make u A Startup disk
from Add/remove programs Or Go to http://www.bootdisk.com and Download
the file that will make u a win 98 or me Boot Disk using your Floppy Drive

then boot from that startup disk
And Run FDISK

now you can see the Actual Size of your Partion or PARTITIONS..
and how many you have..

Now if You made your Hard Drive FAT 32 using XP it will only Format it
to 32 gig no matter how large it is..

if You want over 32 gig then use a win98 or win/me disk or The Disk
that came with your Hard Drive. if you got no disk then go to the
manufactures website and download the file that sets up ur hard drive..
This File/Disk is FAST at formaing ( Less Then 5 Min) but if you use
win98/me it will take Hours to Do!

This is How I wud Start trying to diagnos Ur problem.. You Are starting
in the MIDDLE of the install looking for the problem instead of working
ur way up to where u are !!

I hope I am not sounding to Sarcastic !!

it is not meant to be that way

Right click the Recycle Bin - Properties and Check: Do Not Move Files
to the Recycle Bin, then try deleting the files.
