since having this pc i had to re-instal the system quiet a few times due to
virus's and the first few times it seem'd ok and i could download things from
the microsoft website and get through the genuine copy thing to download form
the site but after the sixth time its been saying that my copy of windows
isnt genuine, but the copy of windows i have has only ever been installed on
my pc and no other pc,
and i dont know what to do, as i really want to download the stuff from the
microsoft website but cant and i cant afford to buy another windows xp cd :(

I recommend you ring Microsoft about this issue. By the way,
getting a replacement CD costs very little - you can even copy
one from a friend. It's the product key that matters.

I also suggest you do something about viruses. Having to reload
a PC six times due to infections is grossly excessive. Either your
virus protection / firewall protection is inadquate or you must
change your web surfing and download habits.

Perhaps you should do a clean install now.

What you will need on-hand

If you have the product key, then you can use any XP Pro install cd that
matches your version (retail, OEM, upgrade). If you have an OEM
machine, the key will be on a sticker on the machine. If you had a
retail version and have lost the key, since you have a running system
you can use one of these free utilities to see the key:

Finder

Write it down and don't lose it.

Remove any malware and practice "Safe Hex".

You shouldn't ever have to reload due to viruses or other malware because
you shouldn't be getting infected in the first place. A firewall should be
active, along with a current AV program with up to date definitions; also
run a combination of anti-spyware/other malware programs regularly and
practice safe hex.

Here are some links with info on how to stay safe with computing and how to
prevent malware infections. Do some reading and change some habits.

i've tryed using another copy of windows xp professional but it still doesnt
get through the genuine part on the microsoft website, the os works fine tho
it just doesnt let me download from the microsoft website, but doesnt getting
a replacement cd cost roughly the same as buying a new one from a shop which
is over £100, well the ones i've sen in the shops are,
i've managed to stop virus's coming onto my pc, as i now have norton and bt
yahoo antivirus and firewall programs installed but at times i have to
re-installed the system as some programs i've download at times dont seem to
want to un-install,
