When I boot to my desktop, My Pictures appears. I can use the double-sided
arrows to push it over to the left, but a small portion of My Pictures still
appears

I cannot reoove My Pictures. There is nothing to shsow that this is running.

How can I close this and have the Desktop take over the entire screen?

Thanks

Roger

Roger,

Are you referring to the Common Tasks pane in the Desktop? See here for a
fix:

I'm not understanding your description completely. How is My Pictures
appearing? As an icon, as an open window or something else?

My interpretation: when you start your computer, the My Pictures folder is
open on your desktop. Again, I'm not sure what you mean by "push it over to
the left." Why not just close this window? There should be an X in the
upper right hand corner, just like most other windows. Are you not seeing
that? If no, what are you seeing?

A default setting in Windows: At startup, restore Explorer windows that
were open at the last shutdown. If what you're describing is a folder
window for My Pictures, that's why it keeps reappearing. Close the window.
Make sure it's still closed when you shutdown Windows and it should not
appear again. Alternatively, you could disable that setting I referred to
(it's in Folder Options under View) so that no windows are restored to the
desktop at startup.

If you are referring to an open window, it's puzzling as to why this window
is so challenging to close. Check Display Properties> Desktop> Customize
Desktop> Web. If web content was added here titled "My Pictures" remove the
check mark next to it.

I think it is an image which is appearing on your desktop as Desktop Item.
First, if you can resize it then you can also close it by clicking the close
button of that item. You are not able to see the close button then reduce the
size and move it between the desktop and check if you are able to see close,
maximize or minimize button.

However, if that doesn't help then:

1. Right-click on your Desktop and choose Properties
2. Click the Desktop Tab and click Customize Desktop.
3. Here click the Web Tab and uncheck the entries listed under "Web Pages".
4. Apply the changes and that is all.

Hope this information helps you, let us know!

Thanks for your reply.

When I boot to my desktop, visualize that the screen is divided in half
vertically.
At the right are my usual desktop icons. In the left "half"., I see My
Pictures - this is a listing of everything in this folder. There is nothing
in this My Pictures half where I can "X" it out. Using the double sided arrow
thing, I can reduce the size of the My Pictures half almost completely so
that a 1/2" or so wide section of My Pictures is there - I can now view all
of my icons, but I cannot get this 1/2" or so wide section of My Pictures off
of the screen.

Again there is nothing in the My pictures where I can close it out.

Based on this, what would you suggest?

Again, I thank you for your help.

Roger

I was able to drag the My Pictures pane to the right, and I then saw the X
where I could close it. All ok now.

Thanks

Oh, good. Glad to hear this is now sorted to your liking.
