I asked this question earlier but noone was interested enough to answare. My
PC ramdomly decides to revert back to Xp buttons/windows format on startup,
all other configured settings remain as previously setup. This minor problem
is giving be grief of biblical proportions, I am sure that I must be a
muppet!. Can anyone shed any light on this problem. I dont believe that I
have a hardware fault as the system performs correctly in all other respects.
Help me please, I think that my legs are turning green "rebit, rebit"

Are you using TweakUi and auto logon?

Two settings should lock that down. First, from Display properties
Themes (TAB) select Windows Classic. Then from the Appearance
(TAB) the Windows and Buttons should be "Windows Classic Style".
Both of those settings should be "Sticky" (Windows remembers).
Along with those two options, I would also go to System Properties,
Advanced (Tab), Performance, Settings (button) and toggle the
Radio button to "Adjust for best Performance".

Thanks R. McCarty but my legs are still turning green. I have tried that and
infact I have even set the custom option with all boxes ticked except the
last. On restarting my system the last box is now ticked, "optimising the
visual styles on windows and buttons" What is going on?

It's hard to speculate because of the interactions and effects of
3rd-Party software. If it was my system, I would probably make
a new profile. Login to that and make the changes to the GUI I
wanted and then reboot several times. If the settings hold, then
it's likely something in your original profile (Registry Hive). If
the new account preserves the settings, then you could copy the
content (Documents,...) into the new profile. You could spend
hours or even days and not locate the key/values that are the
cause of your issue.
