i am trying to install one of the windows components (fax ) and the system
tells me to insert windows xp home edition service pack 2 cd, is this the
same service pack cd i can order from the windows update center?
 
No, you need to insert your Microsoft Windows XP CD.

Can you point to "c:\windows\servicepackfiles" when you asked for the
Windows XP SP2 CD.

You should create a Windows XP SP 2 cd by slipstreaming Service Pack 2 with
your original Windows XP CD.
